File Upload
Include a File Upload question in your form to let respondents attach files to their answers. File uploads are often used for collecting resumes, feedback screenshots, or portfolios. You can then download the file via the Results tab.
Tip
The maximum individual file size allowed in free tier of Formware is 10MB. To collect larger files, upgrade to Formware Pro.
Add a File Upload question to your form
- To add a File Upload question, open an existing form, or start a new one. Then click
+Add question to open the question type menu. - Select File Upload.
- Now enter your question text and description.
- In the Config tab, you can make the File Upload question as required, which means that your respondents would have to upload a file in order to proceed to the next question or to submit the form. To enable this, click on the Required toggle button.
That's it! You are now ready to collect files of any type in your forms. So Easy!
How to access and download files
The uploaded file will be available in Results tab of your form in the Formware dashboard. Simply click on the file that you would like to open and it will open in a new tab in your browser. You can either choose to only view it or download to your computer.
Authenticated File Upload URLs
The URL's of the uploaded files that are presented in the Formware dashboard are pre-authenticated with an access token that is valid for 1 day. This means, once you open the Results tab and access/copy a file URL, the file can be accessed by anyone possessing the URL for 1 day without having to be logged into your Formware account.
After the access token expires, you can simply get a new URL from the dashboard again. This restriction is placed to ensure that your data remains protected at all times.
FAQs about File uploads
What is the maximum file size I can upload with a free Formware account?
With a free account, the maximum file size you can upload is 10MB. However, if you have a Formware Pro account, there's no limit to the file upload size.
What happens to uploaded files if I delete the associated form?
When you delete a form that was used to collect file uploads and other answers from respondents, all the data associated with the form, including the uploaded files, get's deleted automatically. Therefore, please take a backup of your form submissions before deleting the form.
How many files can I upload? Is there a limit to the total weight of the files?
No, there's no limit to the number of files you can upload or the total storage. However, please note that you must respect our Fair Use Policy.
Is there a time limit for how long my files are stored in the system?
There is no time limit on the duration of file storage. As long as your account is open and the responses are not deleted from your account, the files are preserved.
